Sydney Street Apartments

New Farm, Brisbane

Sydney Street Apartments is a boutique multi-residential project on one of the only remaining undeveloped sites on Sydney Street in Brisbane’s New Farm. This small development has a real point of difference, with an Art Deco meets Modern Minimal aesthetic.

The brief was to create six very open and spacious ‘homes’ that would have all the appeal and sense of independence of a house, rather than a typical apartment.

Balancing the commercial reality of the project with a refined architecture, we’ve created a collection of six individual dwellings that are rich in texture, warmth and amenity, and nestle nicely within the lush streetscape of this parkside location.
Taking cues from the Art Deco buildings of Brisbane’s past, this building is designed to reinforce the charm and character of its neighbouring buildings, but with the restrained modern application of steel, brick, timber and concrete.

The building takes full advantage of the subtropical climate by peeling away the enclosure to invite the outside in, creating a public ‘street’ at the upper levels.
The inside spaces – which will be flooded in natural light with views to the surrounding trees – will adopt a balance between extravagance and restraint with the considered use of beautiful materials and soft finishes.

It’s a delicious textural treat of a project, and one that takes advantage of ABA’s collective experience in multi residential projects, both large and small.
