Amaroo
Amaroo is a contemporary family residence located in the leafy inner-west suburb of Bardon, Brisbane. Set on a wide, sloping site, the house is conceived as a refined response to subtropical living, balancing openness to landscape with a strong sense of privacy and retreat.
The project is defined by the desire for a home that is both inwardly protected and outwardly connected, establishing a calm and controlled relationship between interior spaces and the surrounding environment.
The architectural response is organised through an elevated L-shaped plan that defines a protected central courtyard. This arrangement enables broad visual connections to the landscape while maintaining clear separation between private and communal zones.
A screened upper level wraps the form, extending over a more open ground plane to create a layered façade condition. This overhang provides environmental control, privacy and shading, while contributing to a sense of lightness and horizontal extension within the composition.
The result is a composed and restrained family residence shaped by climate, topography and light where outdoor space is integrated as a continuous part of daily living rather than a separate condition.
