Jacob Jooste

Associate. Project Leader MArch Prof SACAP

Associate. Project Leader, Jacob Jooste’s work is grounded in a strong sensitivity to landscape and the specific conditions of place. His approach privileges restraint, material expression and an architectural language that feels inherently connected to its environment.

Raised along South Africa’s Garden Route and shaped by extensive international travel, his perspective is informed by a deep awareness of how architecture responds to both cultural and environmental context. Prior to joining the practice, he worked in Cape Town on high-end residential and public projects, developing a strong foundation in design resolution, detailing and site-responsive architecture.

Since joining the studio in 2017, Jacob has contributed a rigorous and highly considered approach to the practice’s work. His focus spans concept development through to detailed design, with particular attention to craft, proportion and the integration of architecture with landscape.

He is interested in how buildings sit within their surroundings rather than against them, and how subtle shifts in form, material and ground plane can strengthen a project’s relationship to site. This approach reinforces a design language that is quiet, resolved and deeply connected to place.

Within the studio, Jacob plays a key role in shaping projects that demand both conceptual clarity and technical precision. His work supports a consistent design ethos where restraint, detail and environmental sensitivity work together to produce architecture that feels grounded and enduring.

Across residential architecture projects in Brisbane, Melbourne and within International contexts, his contribution reflects a commitment to architecture that is carefully composed, materially honest and closely aligned with the landscape in which it sits.
