Shane is a design-focused architect whose practice is grounded in a deep commitment to the transformative capacity of architecture to elevate the human experience. His professional journey spans work and study across Brisbane, Melbourne, London, and Lund, as well as participation in the University of Queensland’s Japan Studio Masterclass led by RAIA Gold Medallist Professor Brit Andresen at the Tokyo University of the Arts. This international trajectory, coupled with a regional upbringing in Far North Queensland – where timber-framed, corrugated iron homes sit quietly in the landscape – has instilled in Shane an enduring sensitivity to site, material, and climate.
Since joining Alexandra Buchanan Architecture in 2016, Shane has become an integral part of the Brisbane and Melbourne studios. His process is defined by rigour, curiosity, and a strong conceptual drive. He approaches each commission with a respect for its particularity, drawing energy from close collaboration with clients and consultants alike. Shane’s work reveals a thoughtful balance between pragmatic requirements and spatial resonance, resulting in residential architecture that is both grounded and quietly expressive.
Shane’s design philosophy is guided by a belief in restraint, calm, and sensory depth. At its core, his approach seeks to cultivate tactile spaces that promote clarity, presence, and a sense of belonging. Through a disciplined minimalism and an intuitive understanding of light, proportion, and materiality, he creates architecture that is not only visually coherent but emotionally attuned. His designs favour natural materials, muted palettes, and spatial rhythms that support slow, intentional living—resonating with both memory and place.
