The Teneriffe house is a family home in the riverside peninsula of New Farm, Brisbane. The project seeks to reinvigorate a tired single-storey dwelling on a small lot and capitalise on the character and location that the client’s love.
The brief was for a dynamic private home filled with natural light, texture and interest. Due to the small lot and proximity of neighbouring houses, privacy and outlook is limited to the east and west. Our concept will create a captivating internal focus in the form of a central courtyard that will also improve daylight and cross ventilation.

Practicality, flexibility and the ability to respond to the extreme weather conditions typical of Southern Queensland are critical to providing the family with a functional and adaptable home all year round.
Large, top hung pivoting timber screens and exaggerated eaves to the rear of the house will create outdoor rooms that extend the living areas, creating a genuine flow of internal and external spaces and allow year round use of the northwest aspect that until now has been unusable in many months.
