The new addition negotiates the contours of a gently sloping block to sit more comfortably in its setting – amongst established gum trees. The house has a clear separation between the public / shared and private domains – with public domain including for comfortable everyday living and larger entertaining areas. The existing house with its deep plan was dark – by opening up the perimeter and piercing the roof with skylights we are able to flood the interior with natural light.
A restrained, warm palette unifies the core of the house accommodating family living, meals and the kitchen imagined as the heart of the house for time spent together.
To the rear large sliding doors open up to the deck for immediate connection with backyard and the children’s playroom.
