When husband-and-wife developer team Heidi and Brent Stevens bought a bushy north-facing block overlooking the city in Toowong to build their own home, Heidi knew she wanted to go bold on the design.
The Stevens initially used a draftsperson to create the plans, but when the house design came out “looking like a big square”, Heidi discovered us on Facebook, loved our previous projects, and convinced her husband to give us a shot.
Now into the third month of the build, the tradie team is already onto the top level. At this rate the Stevens will be all moved in for Christmas.
And in an interesting twist, ABA’s ever smiling architectural student Luke – whose lifelong dream is to become an architect-builder – has landed a gig as apprentice labourer on this project. He’ll be on the tools every second Thursday to upskill, and he’s super excited about it.
“Every afternoon,” says Heidi, “when the tradies have gone home for the day, I head up to the site to see the progress and look out to the city. It’s a ‘wow house’ from the front, but my favourite feature is the back deck. I can’t wait to sit out there with a glass of wine, looking at the pink sunsets and all the trees and the city lights.”
